November 15th 2006 - And the Winner is.............

Michelle Ramiro, chairman of the Aurora Tsunami committee, draws the winning ticket in the Dolls House raffle. The winning ticket number was no. 099 - CONGRATULATIONS to the winner Jan Rayfield who purchased her ticket at the Kent Show in the summer.

October 20th 2006 - The AGOG Gala Dinner and Dance

An amazing £7,000 was raised on Friday 20th - enough to pay for one more house, additionally one more road was sold and is to be called "Goddard Hill".

A big thank you to everyone who attended and to Geoff and Anne Vodden for organising the event.

October 17th 2006 - The Aurora Charity hits the headlines again!

The Aurora charity was featured on local BBC and Meridien News, BBC radio and commercial radio throughout the day reporting on the visit of Mr Viji Jayataleke, our Project Manager in Sri Lanka. He went to Brunswick House School , who donated the school in the Aurora village, where he spoke about the project at the morning assembly.

August 2006 - The "Three Peaks Challenge" donations ready to be shipped

The £8,000 raised by Martin and Mark Ireson has been quickly put to use - a container full of electrical equipment is on its way to the Aurora Village. Martin will be following it out in November and he will be using it to install all the electrical appliances and wiring in the school and medical centre.

Aurora Charity stand wins "Best in Show" at Kent Show,Detling

At Kents leading show in Detling on July 14-16, the Aurora Tsunami Orphanage Appeal was awarded best charity stand. Come and visit us at our award winning stand at one of the upcoming fundraising events.

JULY 2006 - Aerobics team raise £1,600

The "Aurora Aerobics" team worked out in temperatures of 32C and raised £1,600 - well done everyone!

 

JUNE 2006 - Over £8,000 raised by Martin and Mark Ireson in 24 hours!!

Read their report below:

Martin and Mark completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24hours and 28 minutes. They climbed Ben Nevis (Scotland) in 5 hours 25minutes, Scafell Pike ( Lake District) in 3 hours 45 minutes and Mount Snowdon ( Wales in 5 hours 15 minutes ). They drove 495 miles between mountains at breakneck speed and raised £8,422 in sponsorship, ( made up of money and donated electrical material)

The money will be enough to pay for all the electrical material needed for the school and medical centre in the Aurora village plus a house. ( Number 20, plaque to read,  Mountain Dream,  Donated by the 3 Peaks Challenge Team and Sponsors
 
The "boys" are exhilerated but totally exhausted with aching muscles, difficulty in walking and seriously tired. It was sheer determination and will power that got them up and back down Mount Snowdon as the weather was dreadful, low cloud, rain, high winds and visibility 10 yards.
Us "girls" also suffered from sleep deprivation and nail biting worry over whether they would arrive back in one piece.

It was an adventure never to be forgotten and never to be tried again!!!

Success - 3 Peaks in just over 24 hours and over £8,000 raised!

November 2005

 Chatham Royal Mail donated a cheque towards house number 34 within the Aurora project. The house is to be named, 'Helping Hands' after their fundraising charity. This is May Price and Jim Hatt handing over their cheque from a charity football match between The Royal Mail and the stars of 'Hollyoaks'.

The money will be going towards house number 30 within the Aurora Village Kosgoda Sri Lanka.
