Trips to Sri Lanka 2005
Please note all charity workers are volunteers and all trips , flights etc are paid by the volunteers themselves -all monies raised go direct to the Appeal
Well, this year we have managed to complete three successful trips to Sri Lanka for our charity project in Kosgoda Sri Lanka.
February was our foundation trip whereby we met many destitute families, and we managed to find the land we required for building a small village in Kosgoda. The village is to have forty new homes, a Montessori School/Community Centre and a Doctor’s Medical centre.
May was a busy trip whereby we selected and interviewed the first ten families who are to be allocated the first ten homes within our village. We also observed the clearing of the land ready for the foundations to be laid. Two foundation stones were laid in a special ceremony – the Montessori School/Community Centre and house number one.
August was also busy. The first ten houses were well under way and the Montessori School/Community centre was ready for its roof.
December trip
16 members of the Charity travelled to Sri Lanka for the official opening ceremony of the Aurora village. It was a very moving occasion as there was celebration of the birth of the new village and reflection on what was lost in the tsunami less than a year before.
With 12 houses, 4 shops and the construction of the school well under way the Charity could feel justifiably proud and look forward to 2006 with some optimism.
